Amendment 79 – What You Need to Know

“Because they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent and have built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings, which I never commanded or spoke of, nor did it ever enter my mind or heart.”

– Jeremiah 19:4(b)-5

We regard our upcoming election with great concern. It is nothing new under the sun, the fight for life has been around from the beginning of time. Abortion is not something that God approved, spoke of, or commanded us to do. Just as God called his children to go to battle in days of old, we must embrace this righteous fight for the unborn.

Coloradans have 14 statewide ballot initiatives to decide this November. The most evil and controversial is Amendment 79. The amendment will become the only medical intervention protected in the Colorado Constitution Bill of Rights. Proponents of this misleading amendment claim it is necessary to protect the right to abortion. However, the Colorado legislature has previously enshrined the right to abortion even up to 9 months of pregnancy.

Amendment 79 will ensure unrestricted, unregulated, taxpayer-funded access to abortion and allow public funds to cover the cost without oversight. We should not be forced to pay for or participate in the intentional deaths of healthy children throughout all nine months of pregnancy. Late-term abortions are not rare in Colorado. In 2021, 35 such abortions were performed, and by 2022, there were 118, a 237% increase. (These are the most recent numbers we have).

Currently, the state of Colorado oversees and regulates thousands of healthcare facilities, including but not limited to rehab centers, ambulatory surgical centers, and community and rural health clinics. Amendment 79, however, provides the state with no ability to establish or enforce prudent health and safety standards pertaining to second and third-trimester abortion clinics, further jeopardizing their patients’ health and lives.

If adopted, Amendment 79 will legally eliminate parental notification of minors with no accountability from abortion centers. Not only does this undermine parental rights, but it is also dangerous. A vast majority of adults who experience abortion suffer symptoms of PTSD, shame, guilt, depression, drug, alcohol addiction, and suicide. A minor left alone making difficult decisions without support is frightful. This also opens doors to predators in the abortion industry whose belief is that abortion is a minor’s only option when faced with an unplanned pregnancy.

Please share this with your church members, church leadership, family, and friends. Pray that God will intervene and stop this evil bill; pray he protects the innocent preborn lives that are once again under great threat in our state.
