Earlier this month, the Colorado legislature passed SB23-190 – Prohibiting Deceptive Practices at Anti-Abortion Centers. This bill eliminates a woman’s choice to sustain her pregnancy and save her child’s life through the Abortion Pill Reversal (APR). The legislature deceptively relied upon “science” as defined by pro-abortion doctors to claim that APR is dangerous and harmful to women. In doing so, the legislature ignored testimony and evidence presented by doctors who successfully utilized APR without harmful side-effects to the baby or the mother.
This bill also restricts and censors the good work Pregnancy Medical Centers (PMCs) do for their respective communities. We are accused of luring women into our medical centers by predatory and deceptive marketing practices. The allegations are not true. We are accused of hiring unlicensed and unprofessional staff for our medical centers. Again, the allegations are not true. We are accused of operating a fake clinic. Not only is the allegation false, it is an afront to the dedicated medical professionals that staff our centers.
I am disheartened by the unending attacks targeting PMCs offering free and necessary services to women. I am further disheartened by the eager, aggressive, and deceitful manner in which the Colorado legislature joined the effort. This radical anti-choice legislation eliminates a woman’s freedom to choose when making difficult and life-changing decisions. It presents an ideological agenda that gives women only one choice: abortion. Women that need basic necessities and medical services want to be heard; they come to our centers by choice. They want to be educated about all of their choices; they want support and someone to hear their story, to walk beside them in their time of need. These women – the most vulnerable among us – are denied their fundamental right to choose their path; namely, their healthcare choice. Booker T. Washington said, “[a] lie doesn’t become truth, wrong doesn’t become right and evil doesn’t become good just because it’s accepted by a majority.
The elected officials in Colorado who supported this bill will someday answer to the historically marginalized groups they claim to support. We pray that “someday” happens soon and that the people of Colorado wake up and reject this legislation. We ask you to join us in that prayer.
Life Choices has served women, men, and their families for more than 38 years and you are the lifeline that makes it happen. Can I be completely honest? If it were not for you, I would be tempted to walk away. Even so, your support strengthens me and brings hope for change when it comes to life issues.
I have to admit I was having a little pity party asking God how much longer we must endure this battle. God reminded me of Abraham, who believed God’s promise that he would be the father of many nations. Abraham did not weaken in his faith. Even when he considered the impotence of his 100 year old body and the barrenness of his wife – no unbelief or distrust made him waver. I was reminded that there are many who still believe; who support and stand for life.
God reminded me there are many praying for me personally and for Life Choices staff, volunteers, and board members and centers all throughout Colorado. I cried, I repented and praised God as I was reminded of his promises. Like Abraham when all hope of God’s promises looked dead, I will hope against all hope. I will walk by faith and believe God at his word, not by what I see. I believe we will see a turn-around. Keep your boots on and keep praying!
I know you’ve got our back; you have stood in faith and are standing your ground. You are the voice for those who cannot speak up for themselves. You are supporting the men, women, and families that walk through our doors; you are faithful, and I am humbled and greatly honored to be a part of the army of God. I cannot say it enough; thank-you for all you do and may God richly bless, prosper, and give you peace.
